Very tasty and nice and salty, but unfortunately only on the outside.

I bought this liquorice because it was supposed to be the saltiest in the world, and the outer coating certainly was. But that was all there was to it: after a few seconds, you’re through the coating, and that’s it. Inside, it’s one of those little liquorice pieces with a thin black outer layer and a brown centre (like Meenk’s Salmiak Pins), which was a bit disappointing. I’d hoped the inside would be at least somewhat salty too, rather than just sweet. It is salty in a very different way from regular salty liquorice, though. Anyone reading this has probably tried salty liquorice with a grainy coating, and this is basically the same idea, but with a much greater quantity and intensity of salt, making it extremely strong.

One thing that stood out to me was the very high fat content, unlike most liquorice, which normally has little to no fat. It contains 25.2 grams of fat per 100 grams, of which 15.3 grams are saturated fat—that’s a lot. This is because it’s made with coconut oil and rapeseed oil, which also gives it a different texture from regular liquorice. So bear that in mind if it’s relevant to you.

All in all, it was a fun experience, but given the disappointing centre (in my opinion; others may love it) and the high fat content (and therefore calories), I can’t see myself buying it again anytime soon, with my health in mind. It would be great if they applied the same idea to a piece of liquorice that was salty on the inside too, and therefore contained fewer calories.

Haupt Lakrits - Svenskjävlar! Extra Salty Liquorice 250 g

Most of the "saltyness" is just on the powder they use on the exterior. If you can manage to get past that, the licorice on the inside is rather nice.

It's probably not something I'll buy again, but it tastes exactly like they say it does, the licorice on the inside is tasty, so 5 stars
