The Shantawene coffee is named after the village where the majority of the coffee producers live – many of them women who work directly on the farms. Daye Bensa’s plantation is located at altitudes between 1,900 and 2,217 meters above sea level, while the coffee cherries from smallholders come from farms even higher up in the mountains, between 2,000 and 2,400 meters.
Daye Bensa puts quality first. Through annual celebrations and rewards for the top farmers, both community and commitment are strengthened.
Going forward, Daye Bensa plans to collaborate with even more farmers, with a particular focus on supporting female farmers. The company is also planning a collaboration with Hawassa University, giving students the opportunity to conduct research to further improve coffee quality.
Ethiopia is known for its diversity of traditional varieties, which offer a complex and unique flavour profile.
